Why Is Early Detection Screening So Important?

The best weapon against potentially life threatening disease is early detection. Early detection of health problems before you show any symptoms can lead to better treatment outcomes.

Consider the facts:

Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. This “silent killer” is a slow, progressive disease that can begin early in life and go undetected for years. The earlier atherosclerosis “hardening of the arteries” is detected, the greater the chance it can be slowed, stopped or possibly even reversed. Traditional cardiac tests such as treadmill tests, thallium stress tests, echocardiograms, and cholesterol tests, do not detect the earliest signs of coronary atherosclerosis.

The American Cancer Society reports that Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women. More people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined. Symptoms of lung cancer often do not appear until the disease is in the advanced stage. If lung cancer is detected and treated early, before it has spread to lymph nodes or other organs, the 5-year relative survival rate is approximately 48%. Unfortunately, according to the American Cancer Society, few lung cancers are detected at this early, localized stage.

Osteoporosis is a disease that gradually weakens bones, causing them to become brittle and prone to fractures. A women’s lifetime risk of hip fracture alone is equal to the combined risk of developing breast, uterine and ovarian cancer. 24% of hip fracture patients, age 50 and over, die within a year of the fracture event.

What Is The Difference Between A Screening Examand A Diagnostic Exam?

A screening examination is a study performed in order to detect a disease process at a time before signs or symptoms are present. A diagnostic examination is a study performed in order to detect a disease process when signs or symptoms are already present. Insurance companies will not reimburse for these screening examinations at this time. Payment will be the responsibility of the patient at the time of service. Major credit cards, debit cards, check or cash will be accepted. Most insurance companies and Medicare will pay for diagnostic exams with an appropriate diagnosis. Please check with your individual insurance plan for coverage.

Combined Screening Costs:

The cost of the Coronary Artery and Lung Cancer Screening combined is $400

The cost of the Coronary Artery, Lung Cancer and Bone Density Screening combined is $585
